Presentation of diocese

Founded in March 1992, the Diocese of Gikongoro covers the Nyamagabe District and some parts of districts of Nyaruguru, Huye and Nyanza in the Southern Province, and part of the Karongi District in the Western Province.

The Diocese of Gikongoro was canonically erected on March 30, 1992 and entrusted to His Excellency Monsignor Augustin MISAGO. It is in this diocese that the Parish of Kibeho is located, place of apparitions of the Virgin Mary from November 28, 1981 and in the years that followed. It has an area of 2,072 km² including part of the Nyungwe Forest.
